Memorial Day

It seems that our little playgroup makes Mother Nature grumpy. Every Thursday it either rains or is freezing (or both) and then, THEN!, on Memorial Day when we planned to meet at the lake for a picnic as a group, we were rained out. So we re-grouped and met at the Garfield Park Conservatory.

I love this shot of Leander, Lina and Lucy playing in the fountain.
Did you know that there is such a thing as a Mexican Walking Fish? Now you do.
Griffin and August.
Alison and Ava.
Arnav has gotten so big!
Jackie and Meg.
And with their brood.
Gustav and Lina.
 Sara and Leo.
Kate and Lina jumping off foam stairs.

I think you know these two.
Lucy and Lina negotiating how they will go down the slide...feet first? on back or belly? individually or together?
These two were glued together for most of the day.
Alok and Yuvan.
Time for lunch. It's not a picnic by the lake but it was still a picnic by golly.
 Krisha, Yuvan, Alok and Arnav.
August is inspecting Len closely.
Fortified with food, the big kids were off and running.

Meg and Griffin, Len and August taking a long leisurly lunch.

Butterflies!

Yesterday five butterflies emerged from their cocoons much to our surprise.
The top left cocoon is where the butterfly emerged from. The two that are black are where the next two butterflies emerged. And the two on the bottom left that are still iridescent are still cooking.
Waiting for his wings to dry.
Lucy was much more interested than Kate.

We put some watermelon, orange and some flowers dipped in sugar water in the habitat for them. Hopefully the other four will emerge soon and we can release them over the weekend.

Leander's brothers turn one

I came back from Houston and hit the ground running. After we had our cooking class on Saturday morning we attended a friend's birthday party that afternoon. Leander's brothers, August and Griffin, turned one!
Luke, chilling out.

Lucy and Luke jamming out.
Leander was next to play with Lucy. She's quite popular!
Lucy ran over to get the guitar in time to sing Happy Birthday. She played and sang the whole song.
Time for cake!

 And beer...
"Ummm....Mommy, we aren't allowed to have beer!"
"Honey, with this many kids in one room, beer is necessary."

Cooking class

Saturday we had our last cooking class and this time it was Lucy's turn. On the menu was Asparagus Flatbread. Both of our girls love asparagus so this was a good choice!
 Chopping garlic is fun!
Plucking tarragon leaves off the stalk.
 Rolling out the dough.
Painting on the olive oil
Sprinkle with ricotta and asiago cheese.
Then spread over the sauteed asparagus, garlic, tarragon and olive oil.
Clean up while it bakes in the oven.

Yum! Lucy even brought home a piece for Kate to try. Awww.
So proud! This was a hit with both girls so I think we'll be putting this into our menu rotation.
