Cooking on a snowy day

I'm still working on Lucy's letter for this month but in the meantime, enjoy some cooking! Kate was at ballet with Len so Lucy and I decided to get our supper cooking. It is snowing pretty steadily here so some Mexican chicken tortilla soup sounds like it will be just the thing to warm us all up.

We started out by chopping up the veggies.

It is so much easier to cook with only one kid in the kitchen so I introduced Lucy to the stovetop. She did a great job but managed to touch her wrist on the hot pan as she was stirring. A little ice fixed her right up and we went back to cooking.

Amazingly, it only took 45 minutes total to get it ready to simmer on the stove.

As you can tell, we reached the outer limits of her patience and ability to hold it together! I like these kinds of activities with her as it teaches her to focus and control her body/impulses while doing something she enjoys. She was so proud when Len and Kate came home and said, "What is that yummy smell?!"
