Apple Picking. Just apple picking.

Most of the u-pick farms around here offer apple or pumpkin picking but also much more. SO. MUCH. MORE. Train rides. Donuts. Cider. Shopping. Petting Zoo. Bouncy houses. Mazes. Pony rides. Oh My!

I'm feeling, lately, the need to slow down. To sit in stillness and quiet. The city doesn't often afford this so today we sought out a place we could all go to enjoy nature. Just nature. No rides. Nothing but sunshine and apples. And a few chickens and bees. It was glorious. The place was Homestead Orchard in Woodstock, IL.
It was unseasonably warm--last check of the thermometer in the afternoon indicated 79 degrees.
These blush apples were plentiful and ready for picking.

At last count, I think each girl ate 4 apples, one of each kind we picked.

Lucy's loose tooth is hanging by a thread--I'm amazed it didn't come off with all this apple biting.

Two bags of apples picked, we ambled over to the chicken coop and finish off our last apples.

The ladybugs kept landing on us, much to our delight.

I have three trays of apple slices dehydrating in the convection oven for apple chips. They should be done in 15 or so hours. Tomorrow we're going to bake a pie and make apple butter since the girls are off school for Columbus Day.
